I purchased this for my Girlfriend and I yesterday at the mall and We were blown away. the brower,Apps, Camera, texting, touch screen, keyboard are all very easy and responsive. On the first day was are movie/date night and we used the phone to find theater, movie times, Olive garden. we found everything in a blink of an Eye.

The only problem is the battery life it drains fast, but for us its not a big deal are jobs are on the road so we just keep it charging on the car chargers.

Buy this phone!!

Well this is my first Droid type of phone. I swore I wouldn't get one of these. But after a shocking price at Wal-Mart for $28.88 (AMAZON HAS IT FOR FREE.) I said what do I have to loose especially when my other phone had issues. I said I'll take it back if I don't like it. Well now you can't pay me to take it back. For me this phone is first Droid type. I can watch movies, play games, go on the net, txt and e-mail for me that is enough. The sound quality is great. Quality is good - on the first day I dropped the phone outside with the hard shell I brought I don't have one scratch on it. . The keyboard is really assume, and even the virtual keyboard is good. I don't really make mistakes on that. The text to speech is great.

The things I don?t like about it is the learning curve because there are things I need to do with my business. But if I get a call and don?t know how to answer it with call waiting I just call back. Most of the stuff I had problems with like message retrieval via txt, voice, and email which all comes in with the same tone in other words if you get a txt message or e-mail or voice message the warning sound is the same. I didn?t know how to get them without going throw a lot of steps. But the guys at Verizon show me and it?s easier than other regular phones. Today I learned how to do call waiting and Call 3 way calling and it?s actually less steps. So bottom line is you need to read the instructions. I don?t like the fact that city id not available and the apps that claim to have it are not good. I also miss the A date beyond the lock screen. I sometimes need to look at my phone and see a date I can?t unless the phone locked me out and then I have to unlock it to see it. As far as the screen it?s a little small but it?s good enough for me. I think this screen is actually bigger than the first Motorola Droid phone. Hey if you have the bucks go for the Droid X right now I don?t have $200.00 + for a phone so for $28.88 I?ll live.

The one thing I don?t like about the droid system is this. You have two voice dialing applications Voice search and voice dialing. Voice dialer is horrible. It can?t get the names correct at all. I tested another phone out in the Verizon store it was the same story. But strangely enough if I said dial a number xxx-xxx-xxxx that works ok. Again I have to read up on it. Now voice Search is good. But your contacts must be on a Google account and synchronized. So if you have an old phone and you transfer your data up to your new phone If you stop there your voice search won?t work for automatic dialing. You have to actually transfer the data to your mem card (after the data got transferred to your phone) and back out of your mem card to your phone Sync with Google. On top of that you must check a number to be a default in order for voice search to work for you. If you don?t do this it will search for a name like Greg on the internet, and do nothing with voice dialing. I do miss the fact that can you transfer the data and the voice dial works on the old phones. This new way too complicated for a user who needs this to work out of the box. Also as far as I?m concerned you do have privacy issues with Google so that?s another reason I?m not for this way to do voice dialing. I just don?t use that website for anything other than storing those numbers (that Hopefully) Google doesn?t use data to sell and make money. Hey we are going into new world order soon anyway.

The Camera is a 3 mp Camera. I?ve seen better picture Qualities on other cell phone Camera?s But again it?s good enough. It?s a little slow which is common on all cell phones, and the pic quality is a little noisy or not that sharp again if I?m at an affair I?ll take a normal Camera. If you want a good cell phone cam from what I read you can get the Droid X for $299.99 at Verizon store, or $199.00 on line. My LG Cam will suit me fine if I have an auto accident or If Im at a friends house watching football. It even has a flash To be honest what I mostly use a phone for is talking on it for personal and business use and most of the features on here are not necessary but they are hear so?

Over all I love the phone. Right now it?s a toy. Yeah there are a few frustrations but not enough to complain about compared what I do have. Sure I miss just picking up the phone and dialing it instead of unlocking the phone though a touch screen. Sure I but I have drove and dialed at the same time with this phone is it a little harder sure at first but then you get use to it. I like it and for $28.00 at Wal-Mart you bet I?m keeping

UPDATED-Well I just learned today that there is not really a way to redial a number that you had dialed before. I went into the store and tested out the droid X the droid was able to do it. I got sad. I did find a application that will let me redial. I also read on a review that the droid can't view video like a CNN Video. I confired it. I also try that on the droid X and the same thing happened with that. Hopefully with the Droid 2.2 will fix these litttle bugs. Another thing that was an issue was the time was not displayed in call log onn the root page. you have to click the call on the root page and in the next window you will see the time. The X didn?t have that it showed the time. The Date on the front beyond the locked page would be nice also but I found a free app for that so?.

Over all I still think the phone is great. I do like the keyboard on this much better than the Droid X. The stuff I?m missing I found workarounds for in the market. So I?m still happy.

8/22/2010 UPDATE--Today I decided to test the Iphone and the Sprint Verison HTC Smart phone. and of course i tested the Droids. In a nutshell I will admit the the phones are a little faster the Camera is better But I still wouldn't want to own them. The Keyboards weather virtual or a real one does not beat the LG's keyboard. For the few nano seconds more that I'd loose on the LG's because of a processor speed I'd loose more with those other keyboards. There is no sepreate number line and the keys ones are flat. on the droid. The iphone which is a awsum phone I couldn't get along with the keyboard. I'm totally happy with my purchase. I only paid $28.88 at Walmart. It does almost everything the droids do.

I have pacman, pinball, I stream fox news, I can goto a website and forward a pic from the website via txt or e-mail. I can stream foxnews, I can take pics, take videos, I can download apps which correct whats missing for example Area code Id which replaces City Id, I can download a redial button, I have downloaded You mail which would replace the verizon's visual voicemail. Granted you need the lg's version but thats ok. and there is lot's lots more. I can read pdf files and office files I mean isn't that what the droids do. Ok so it's a few nano secounds slower but I can't justify the extra 100-200 more for the other phones. Ok this one is a little thicker. Mine droped a few times and not a scratch. So think about it. The Iphone is as thin as a credit card I bet that would break on the first fall.

BTW I was walking a Mall and Walmart the voices were clear and I was clear and not one dropped call. Trust me It's not top of the line but it does what it's suppose to do and preforms almost all things the other can do. I like quality products I never sell myself short. I went for a pioneer tv, a very highend laptop. I even went for the best Gps. I got my money back for that one because it was the 3rd one that faild on me. I now have a refurb 89.00 one best one yet. So Trust me. for the value this phone is the best bang for the buck try it out and see if you like it. i sure did.

As my first Android experience, this phone has left a sour taste in my mouth. My first Ally experienced random reboots and, after about about a week, the vibrate functionality began to stop working for long periods of time. Also, as pointed out by reviews around the web, overall the phone feels laggy.

I received a replacement about 2 weeks ago, and overall I've been fairly happy, minus the random reboots (which do seem to be daily). But last night was the final straw: After my battery died while at work, I took the phone home to recharge and it has entered a perpetual reboot cycle which continues into today. Removing the battery does nothing. Once it's replaced, the phone just continues rebooting. Extremely frustrated at this point.

While the phone was working as advertised, I was generally pleased with the functionality (and price point). But it's not worth this headache. Shame on you, LG.

4 out of 5 stars Android phone that delivers at an unbeatable price   July 25, 2010

The Ally is a great Android phone at an affordable price. The screen is a little small and the processor lags at times, but it doesn't take away from the overall incredible value this phone offers. I highly recommend it. One note: stay away from the "Youmail" app, great concept but it was causing random reboots. I almost returned my Ally before realizing it was a software issue.

5 out of 5 stars Best form/function in an Android   July 19, 2010

I've been an active user, including many apps, since purchasing this phone 3 weeks ago and had a Blackberry for 2 years prior.

This phone is a bit thicker but lighter than Moto Droid which my wife owns. The LG Ally screen is a bit shorter and narrower than the Motorola but I find that a positive, giving the whole phone a smaller footprint and requiring a smaller belt pouch. Small but thicker size means less flex and less torque on the screen in response to external forces. I also prefer the LG Ally's smoother exterior contours over the sharp edges of the Motorola or the HTC. I've always found LG build quality to be superb.

LG showed true genius in choosing physical (rather than virtual) buttons for Send, End, Homepage, Menu, Back & Search which are available 100% of the time regardless of screen content. As with all Droids, get a good Task-killer app (I use Advanced Task Killer) to shut down unnecessary running apps when turning off the phone; it saves a lot of battery power.
