Amazon.com Product Description Protect your ears while keeping yourself motivated at your job site with your favorite tunes or radio programming with the AO Safety 90541 WorkTunes with digital tuning hearing protector, which includes an integrated AM/FM radio and a stereo input jack for connecting an MP3 player. A great choice for use on construction sites (check your local regulations), in your workshop, or in your yard while mowing or blowing, the WorkTunes hearing protector offers an EPA noise reduction rating of 22 decibels.
The lightweight gel/foam ear cushions offer comfort for extended wear. | You'll enjoy convenient, comfortable hearing protection from the WorkTunes headset, which features lightweight gel/foam cushions that feel great even after wearing for an entire day, an adjustable stainless steel headband with padded top. Hearing protectors are recommended whenever you encounter extended periods of sound levels regularly exceeding 85 dBA--essentially, a level of noise where you feel the need to shout in order to be heard by someone just 3-feet away (see a chart showing typical sound levels). The radio and its controls are housed in one cup, and you'll be able to quickly tune to your desired AM or FM radio stations with the easily accessible seek/scan tuning buttons. Reception strength may vary depending upon location. You can also save up to 10-preset stations with a dedicated key that sits below the LCD screen, which offers a large-sized display of the radio frequency. Other controls include a combined on/off/volume control and a toggle button that switches between AM and FM radio. The LCD screen also offers a low battery indicator (see a larger schematic image of all controls). You can also connect an optional MP3 player (such as an Apple iPod), CD player or other portable devices such as a scanner via the stereo input jack (35.mm male-to-male cable not included). Additionally, the WorkTunes headset protects your hearing from both the external environment and the music you're listening to thanks to a volume control limiter that tops out at 85 dB. The radio and digital input are powered by 2 AA batteries (not included), which provide approximately 140 hours of operating time. |
The WorkTunes hearing protector combines an AM/FM radio with digital input for connecting your MP3 player (see larger schematic image). |

A/O Worktunes with digital Tuning July 26, 2010 JasonT I bought one of the older versions of this a few years ago and absolutley loved it.
The old one required manual tuning. The new one is equally as great as far as drowning out the noise but I am not crazy about the tuning. You can preset channels but if you want to listen to others that are not preset it is kind of a pain to search. Also the AM band on the new set has a constant humming noise and is really hard to listen to. Since my father-in-law listens to AM more than I, I traded him the old version for the new version (his fathers day gift). Bad idea on my part. Still like the product as it does protect the hearing and the sound is pretty good. Would still recommend but if you can find the older version, go for it. Unless that is you are into the MP3, which I am not.
Not worth the money July 25, 2010 Mr. Mike Gootjes (MI USA) They muffle outside noise decently, however; the radio has lots of static at times and the speakers sound just awful when listening to an MP3 player. I found my $15 Skullcandy earbud headphones to block noise better and sound better as well.
Radio is iffy, MP3 and hearing protection great; comfortable July 23, 2010 Kenneth D. Lee (Hattiesburg, MS USA) Reception on the radio wasn't anything close to what my car radio gets, limiting me to about two of the dozen local stations. Radio finally stopped working altogether after about a year for no apparent reason, but MP3 player still works, which is fine. I had good luck with batteries when the radio was operational, lasted decently long periods of time. These are GREAT for protecting hearing (can still hear conversation well enough). I'm a woodworker, and my power equipment can be very LOUD, this solves the loudness problem and is quite comfortable.
AO Safety 90541 WorkTunes AM/FM Hearing Protector with Digital Tuning and MP3 Input July 23, 2010 Grady (Savannah,GA. USA) The first problem I had with these WorkTunes occurred when I was ordering them. I had a pair of "PELTOR" WorkTunes. They lasted 5 years and handled a lot of abuse, so I wanted to get another pair of the same brand. When I searched for WorkTunes, these AO Safety WorkTunes came up. Well, they are not the same thing.
They are comfortable, and they provide adequate hearing protection from lawn equipment and power tools such as saws and grinders, but I want to listen to music at the same time and these WorkTunes have very poor radio reception. My previous pair had analog tuning and these are digital. The nice thing about digital is you can't accidentally change the channel by bumping into things, but to get an uninterrupted signal I found that you have to bend the antenna down, so I have had to glue the antenna down to get reception, and I can't even pick up my favorite channel that I used to be able to pick up with the previous pair.
I had read a review from someone stating this exact same problem, but I just thought they were simply too far away from the radio towers, but now I see that it's poor reception from the WorkTunes.
Great for work but could use better electronics July 23, 2010 STLharry They are great and I use them every single day, but there is a radio tower right near my house and that particular radio station masks every other one because the electronics in the headphones are not good enough to pick up the other stations over it.
The reason I don't really care is that I can listen to my iPod with them, so I am usually the DJ.
All in all, great purchase for me, not to mention that the batteries last a LONG time.
